The Per Diem Pathology Assistant independently performs pathology assistant responsibilities in a manner consistent with current laboratory technical and safety standards, in support of and under the direction of the section supervisor and/or Pathologist.
Key Responsibilities:
Under general direction of the supervising Pathologist, prepares surgical specimens for gross description and dissection. Describes gross anatomic features, dissects surgical specimens, prepares tissue for histologic examination, and photographs gross specimens. Ensures compliance with internal policy and external regulations. Troubleshoots or obtains assistance in resolving equipment problems. Initiates appropriate labeling procedures and maintains accurate and complete case and specimen identification throughout all procedures. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Completion of a 2-year Pathologists' Assistant program (NAACLS accredited), or similar program.
Three to five (3 - 5) or more years of relevant experience.
Current ASCP Board certification.
Experience and proven success with advanced knowledge in pathology theory and industry best practices.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must pass physical and TB test.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
