DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, the Pharmacist II will support the Moores Cancer Center Pharmacy by supporting the on-boarding and ongoing patient management of oncology patients. The job duties include dispensing and clinical oversight that meet URAC and Joint Commission Accreditation Standards to provide safe and appropriate patient care. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for provision and documentation of medications and medication-related services to patients according to standards established by the Department of Pharmacy. The pharmacist will serve as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students as assigned and will participate in Medical Center and Departmental committees and promote institution-wide medication use policy.

Be able to provide medication counseling in the pharmacy and at the patients bedside as part of the UCSD Med to Bed program. Be a self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization. Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability. Must be able to work variable shifts to include weekends, holidays and overtime as required. Must be willing to rotate to all pharmacy areas/sites.

Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy state and federal regulations; interpersonal and customer service skills; supervisory skills to include workload management; ability to operate computer systems; demonstrate teaching skills and writing skills. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences. Work with the physicians and the pharmacy billers to provide justification for obtaining authorization for medications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or equivalent clinical experience.

  • Registered Pharmacist - issued by the state of California (RPH).

  • Two (2+) or more years retail pharmacy experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in Ambulatory Oncology Pharmacy setting.
  • Experience in processing prescriptions for oral antineoplastic and supportive care medications.
  • Experience with specialty pharmacy requirements.
  • Pharmacy residency or equivalent clinical experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be willing to rotate to all pharmacy areas/sites.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
