DESCRIPTIONThe Department of Neurosciences is the 4th largest Department at UCSD School of Medicine. The Department's mission is to create synergies and define the ideas and programs that will allow us to transform how our neurosciences community discovers, teaches, and cares. We strive to conduct cutting-edge science and research and train the next generation of neurologists and researchers by fostering education at all levels and integrating the latest scientific and medical advances into the curriculum. The Department has two residency programs (adult and pediatrics) with 35 residents and nine fellows programs with 14 fellows. The training sites include but are not limited to UCSD Medical Center, JMC Hospital, VAMC, and Rady Children's Hospital.
Under general supervision of the Neurosciences Residency and Fellowship Program Manager, as well as the NCC Fellowship Program Director and NCC Medical Director, the Health Professional Education Specialist will serve as the NCC Fellowship Program Coordinator, and independently coordinate Neuro-Critical Care (NCC) fellowship program operations for four NCC fellows. This includes implementing the NCC Fellowship Program's core curriculum, coordinating program operations and teaching and learning activities, evaluations and assessment, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, program recruitment, and maintaining fellowship accreditation. The incumbent is responsible for organizing and executing the NCC fellowship recruitment process including organizing interviews and rank meetings, and will compose, distribute, and maintain program communication resources, including the website and marketing materials for the NCC program. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing, directing, coordinating, and administering resources to ensure overall control of fellowship activities.
Additionally, this position will provide administrative support to the Neurology Residency program under the supervision of the Neurosciences Residency and Fellowship Program Manager. These responsibilities include coordinating program operations, including teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, evaluations and assessment, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, program accreditation, and program recruitment. The incumbent will assist with logistics and coordination of resident recruitment and ranking and ensure an organized and coordinated interview process. The incumbent will compose, distribute, and maintain program communication resources, including the website and marketing materials. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing, directing, coordinating, and administering resources to ensure overall control of residency activities.
For both programs, incumbent will make operational decisions with a significant degree of independence, collaborating with the NCC Fellowship Program Director, NCC Medical Director, and Neurosciences Residency and Fellowship Program Manager. Incumbent serves as liaison between Program Director(s), resident physicians, division contacts, Graduate Medical Education (GME) support staff, and Medical Staff at UCSD, including outside governing entities such as the ACGME, ABPN, NCS, AAMC, NRMP, ERAS, Medical Licensing Boards, OGME, SFMatch, ECFMG, and Verifications of Fellow Alumni. The incumbent ensures that all departmental educational activities are integrated with the overall goals and mission of the Department of Neurosciences, the UCSD School of Medicine, and UCSD at large. Applies knowledge about curriculum, requirements, and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, including teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. Must be able to facilitate efficiency and a high degree of confidentiality.
Lastly, incumbent will work closely with the NCC Medical Director to provide a high level of administrative support to the Neuro-Critical Care Division, including but not limited to calendaring for division faculty, writing up agendas/minutes for division meetings, coordinating faculty interviews, processing department reimbursements, assisting with PowerPoint presentations, project management, and other duties as assigned. These duties will require a high degree of independence, flexibility, and ability to think on the go to support this high-paced division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSSeven (7) years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training plus three (3) or more years of relevant experience.
Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry.
Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program.
Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking.
Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.
Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.
Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience.
Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems.
Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner.

- Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,600 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.67 - $53.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
